About One Wrong Choice

One Wrong Choice is a small site of short, illustrated choose-your-path games for adults. Each game drops you into a situation you would not want to be in (a mini-mart surrounded by sleepy undead shoppers, a space station whose robots insist everything is fine, a dinner invitation that is a little too generous) and gives you eight decisions to get out of it.

Who makes it

The site is made by Philip Cartledge, a senior software developer who builds the games and edits the stories. You can reach Philip through the contact page.

How the games are made

Stories are drafted with the help of AI writing tools and the pictures and animations are made with AI image tools, from written briefs that describe every scene. Every story is then edited by hand for tone, fairness and consistency, and each picture is written to match the story, so the scene shows what actually happened.

A program also checks every game before it goes live. It plays every possible route through the story, which is thousands of routes per game, and confirms that every ending can be reached, that no screen ever leaves you without a real choice, and that the explanation on each result page is true for the choices that produced it.

What the games are, and are not

Every story is original fiction. The stakes are real inside the story, and some endings are bad ones, but nothing is shown in graphic detail. The games do not give real-world survival, safety or medical advice.

How the site is paid for

The games are free and need no account. The site may show advertising in the future to cover its costs; if it does, ads will sit around the games, never inside a scene, and will never decide what happens in a story. The privacy policy explains what the site stores.
