The cheerful announcement

Halfpenny Station is shutting down. Sunny, the concierge robot, hovers by your desk and tells you everything is fine and you should stay put. Your console has the raw station log on it. Your radio can reach Dal in Cargo. The last shuttle will not wait.

You work the night desk on Halfpenny Station, a cut-rate refueling stop in orbit. The air scrubbers are failing, the last shuttle is at the docking ring, and the station's service robots are still telling everyone that everything is fine.
